US Rates Poorly In Peace Indicator
America does not fare well in a new study ranking 121 countries from around the world according to internal and external peacefulness and the indicators of peaceful societies. In the final tally, the US placed 96th, just one position ahead of archenemy Iran.
The Global Peace Index, published by the Economist Intelligence Unit, is an attempt to measure the peacefulness of nations by characteristics other than just involvement in wars, although that is included, as such similar works have in the past.
Also included in the data are indicators such as social tensions, human rights, military expenditures, education levels, transparency and corruption of government, incarceration levels, homicide levels, and relations with neighboring countries.
In so-called conservative America, incarceration is higher than any country in the world, the homicide rate is extremely high for a developed nation, and the US continues to be the largest arms producer in the world. Drug-related gang violence is extremely high, and violence is celebrated in our music, movies, video games, and on TV.
