Pelosi Flexes Financial Muscle On Iraq
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has indicated that the Bush administration must be more accountable when it comes to war funding. She said that the President would have to justify adding troops to Iraq, and also show responsibility for their support.
Although several leading Democrats had serious reservations about cutting off funding, Pelosi suggested that it may be an option if Bush were to, as expected, attempt to increase the amount of troops. Military officials say that an initial increase of 8,000 to 10,000 with an option to add more later is the plan under consideration.
Democratic leaders want the President to begin a withdrawal of troops from Iraq within 6 months.
Looks like a confrontation coming.
