Letter From Susan Fuldauer
Manfred
As a state employee, you might appreciate the comprehensive pension reform package I have announced for all public employees. We are at the bottom of the rankings in what our public employees receive (and yet our legislators are in a race to the top with their pension benefits). The plan calls for the following:
1. Raising the multiplier from 1.1 to at least 1.5 (we are the lowest in the nation). Capping the school contribution at 7%.
2. Reducing vesting requirements from 10 years to 8 years.
3. Using an employee’s highest 12 quarters of earnings to calculate benefits instead of the current use of 20 quarters.
4. Allowing state employees to borrow against a small percentage of their defined contribution benefits.
5. Elimination of the 4-1 match defined contribution plan currently enjoyed by state lawmakers. They are, after all, public employees.
