East vs West: Violence Or Understanding?
The following is from a piece relegated to the opinion section because it is not so-called “hard news.” It is highly relevant to our contemporary view of the world, however.
From Pravda:
If an individual or group from a Muslim community resorts to extremism in political or religious spheres for whatever reason or commits a crime, the general tendency is to hold the whole Islamic tradition responsible. What happens if someone from Western culture or a Christian right-wing extremist resorts to violence or commits a crime? He is held responsible as an individual and no one blames the Western culture or Christianity for his actions.
Possibly the length of this article or the fact that it was published in a Russian news outlet may lead some readers to question its veracity. Please don’t; it is a thoughtful and insightful look at the way we view the world and our fellow human beings.
